Abraham
God told a seventy-five-year-old man to leave home without saying where he was going.
Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. — Genesis 12:1-3
Abram was seventy-five and settled in Haran when God told him to get out of his country and go to a land that would be shown to him later. He went. He was promised descendants as countless as the stars while his wife Sarah stayed barren year after year, and the waiting stretched on so long that they tried to help God along through Hagar, and it cost the family dearly. Isaac was finally born when Abraham was a hundred years old. Then God said to take that son, the only son, and offer him on a mountain in the land of Moriah. Abraham rose up early in the morning, split the wood, and went. He had the knife in his hand when the angel called his name, and there was a ram caught in a thicket by his horns. Abraham named the place Jehovahjireh, the Lord will provide.
