Job

Job was the greatest of all the men of the east, blameless and upright, with seven sons, three daughters, and herds beyond counting. In one day messengers arrived one after another with news that the oxen were taken, the sheep burned, the camels raided, and the house where his children were feasting had fallen on them. He tore his robe, shaved his head, fell down and worshipped, and said the Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away. Then he was struck with boils from the sole of his foot to his crown, and his wife told him to curse God and die. Three friends came and sat with him seven days in silence, which was the best thing they did, and then they spent chapters explaining that he must have brought it on himself. Job never got the explanation he asked for. God answered him out of a whirlwind with questions about the foundations of the earth and the wild goats of the rock, and Job said he had heard of God by the hearing of the ear but now his eye had seen Him.

Why It Matters

You may never get the answer to why. What you can have is God Himself, and people who have walked through the fire will tell you that turns out to be enough.
