Joshua

Joshua served Moses from his youth, held up his hands in battle, and stayed at the tent when everyone else went back to camp. He went into Canaan as one of twelve spies and came back with Caleb saying the land was good and God would give it to them, and the congregation talked about stoning them both. So he watched an entire generation die in the wilderness over forty years for a report he never agreed with. When Moses died, God told him three times to be strong and of a good courage. He sent the priests into the flooded Jordan and the water stood up in a heap. At Jericho he had the army walk around the city in silence for six days, seven times on the seventh, and the walls fell down flat. At the end of his life he divided the land, gathered the tribes at Shechem, and told them to choose whom they would serve, but as for him and his house, they would serve the Lord.

Why It Matters

You can hold on to what God said even when everyone around you gives up on it. Courage is usually just obedience that has been waiting a long time.
