Mary

A teenage girl in a small town said yes to something that would cost her everything.

And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her. Luke 1:38
The Story

Gabriel came to a young woman in Nazareth, a town of no reputation, and told her she had found favour with God and would bring forth a son and call His name Jesus. She asked how, since she knew no man, and was told the Holy Ghost would come upon her. Her answer was simple. Be it unto me according to thy word. That yes cost her a reputation before it cost her anything else, and Joseph nearly put her away privately until an angel spoke to him too. She bore her child in a stable in Bethlehem, laid Him in a manger, fled to Egypt to keep Him alive, and lost Him for three days in Jerusalem when He was twelve. Simeon had told her a sword would pierce through her own soul. It did, at Golgotha, where she stood and watched, and her son gave her into the care of the disciple John before He died.

Why It Matters

Saying yes to God does not mean the road gets easier. It means you are not walking it alone, and He knows exactly what it is costing you.
