Peter

Simon was mending nets by the sea of Galilee when Jesus told him to leave them and become a fisher of men, and he went. He was always the first to speak. He stepped out of the boat onto the water and sank when he looked at the wind. He was the one who said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God, and minutes later got rebuked for telling Jesus the cross would never happen. He swore he would die before he denied his Lord, and that same night he cursed and said three times that he did not know the man, and then the cock crew and he went out and wept bitterly. After the resurrection Jesus met him at a charcoal fire on the shore and asked him three times if he loved Him, once for every denial, and told him to feed His sheep. Weeks later Peter stood up at Pentecost and three thousand souls were added in a day.

Why It Matters
